Awakening Your Inner Champion (Day 1)

Not to long ago, millions of people all over the world united yet again on opposite sides of the boxing ring for the Mayweather Vs McGregor fight. Two skilled fighters in their various areas facing each other for the title of Champion. Wanting to be the best is at the core of every winner, no skilled fighter would tell you that in their pursuit of greatness they ever told themselves this is just about having fun, it has always been about winning, defeating those who come up against you and being the last one standing with fists raised, facing the cheering crowd. The idea of championship is not new to us, for years, centuries even, men have sought greatness through war, competition, politics, unique skills and abilities. The world’s hall of fame is crowded with the names of men and women who sought to be the best and succeeded.

For whatever the reason, most champions have one thing in common; passion. This passion for something has always placed them on the path of greatness because there is something about being passionate about a cause, that propels us beyond what might otherwise be limitations. Limitations like lack of motivation, laziness, lack of resources, fear, doubters and naysayers all seem to fade in the light of fiery passion. The bible is littered with stories of greatness, men and women who burdened with a cause, were propelled out of their comfort zones and into their purpose, ultimately making great contributions to the kingdom of God. You and I are not exempt from greatness; from the call to championship, yet so many of us live our lives without ever entering the championship.

A championship is defined as a contest for something, usually includes a series of matches, or the vigorous support or defense of someone or something. This therefore makes a champion someone who triumphs over obstacles, which may be a series of tests and trials or someone who defends or supports a cause vigorously. The vision that we often get of a champion is someone standing proudly with fists raised, soaking in the praise and attention they have earned. However, when we look at champions of the bible we see someone kneeling at the end of a successful task humbly acknowledging the hand of God in his/her victory. Or at least we should, but not even biblical champions were perfect.

Just like the men and women of old and the great men and women of today, we have within us a champion, we have within us a cause, that only we have the vigor, heart and passion, to fight for and defend. God created us this way, with this capacity… in his image and likeness he created us. He created us with heart, with the ability to be passionate, easily dampened and numbed by the realities of life but so capable of great things. And your great things do not have to be huge things, it might not be publicized or broadcasted before an audience, your name may never go up in lights, but simply tapping into your purpose is an achievement of greatness itself, because then you would have accomplished what God has created you to.

So wake up, wake up that part of yourself that has been dormant for so long. What breaks your heart? what makes it race with excitement? What makes your stomach dip and dance and lights up your eyes? What do you daydream about? What can you easily lose yourself in? What always preps you for a fight, so much that you feel your blood boil and fire ignite in your veins? Or what simply brings you joy and peace and quietness of mind? That part of you needs to be awakened, because it is then that you will be entered into the championship of the kingdom of God. The bible says

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us… Heb 12:1.

You don’t run with endurance, laying aside all else if you don’t have passion; if you don’t have a cause. And trust me that cloud of witnesses of those who have gone before, can see it. They know what passion looks like, maybe they are looking to see it in you too maybe they are shouting and cheering at you to find it, to wake up that part of you that will propel your feet and ignite a fiery vigor in your heart, so that all you see is the next mark of greatness all for the honour and glory of God.

Ask God today to reveal to you your cause, because every champion has one.
