Not Alone in the Fight (Day 7)

So he arose early as he usually did, ready to start attending to his duties as he often did and as he stepped out the front door of their dwelling and wiped the blur of sleep from his eyes he was met with the most terrifying sight anyone could face on a morning and no it wasn’t his wife who had fallen asleep in her make up again, it was an army from hell! And this poor attendant, though he had been waiting on the man of God for some time and would have seen him perform many feats in the name of God, was afraid. So he asked the question that many of us ask in situations where we feel completely outnumbered and out of our element “Oh boy, what in the world are we gonna do about this?”

We have all been there and if we haven’t we are probably going to be there at some point in the future. See during a championship, especially when the challenges start coming one after the other, it’s easy to feel like you’re in it all alone. That all the odds are against you and that you are the only one on your side. And during those moments it’s easy to forget all the challenges you would have overcome before, during those moments it’s easy to be so afraid that you think that this just might be your last battle. Elisha’s attendant could totally identify, because when he stepped out and saw this serious army surrounding the city, he was afraid, he thought surely there’s no way we can defeat this enemy, and he would have been right… if they were actually alone in the fight.

And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” So he (Elisha) answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” And the LORD opened the servant’s eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.…  – 2 Kings 6:16

Elisha, another great champion of old, knew the God he served, not only did he remember what God was capable of but he could see what God was capable of. And so while the servant only saw the enemy’s forces, Elisha was at peace because he could see those who were standing with them. In the same way as you progress towards victory you have supporters, and sure there may be times you won’t see them, there may be times it seems like you are on your own, but that’s where your faith comes in. Your faith comes in when you know you serve a God who promised to never leave you nor forsake you, your faith comes in, when you know that greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world, your faith comes in when you remember what he has taken you through before, your faith comes in when you remember that your number one supporter is God and that the cause you fight for, is His.

And then in addition to your number one supporter, you have those who are looking out for you and rooting for you in the midst of the crowd, on the sidelines cheering you on or even beside you in the arena.

A champion comes to understand that their win isn’t their own, because they don’t do it alone and they don’t do it for themselves. When Kirani James won that first Gold medal for Grenada and he lifted that flag in front of the whole world and the anthem echoed throughout that stadium, Grenadians all over the world stood with him, claiming that gold medal like it was their own. Every champion has people standing for them, some might be ride or die, others might be there just for wins and the wagon ride but what is important is that the champion knows that he isn’t alone and there are those who will stand with him regardless.

In the championship of faith there will be times when it might seem like you really are on your own. When David stepped out to face Goliath, the army of Israel were probably already preparing his burial spot, when Shadrach, Mesach and Abendego were tossed into the furnace, their peers were probably already preparing their eulogies, but they all stayed in the fight because when it all came down to it, they knew they had their number one supporter standing with them, because their cause was His.

Do you feel like you are alone in this? Then check your cause, check your faith and open your eyes.

Be blessing,
