Re-discovering Faith: Resonating points so far
Resonating points from my last reading week from Re-discovering Faith by Myles Munroe
1. Faith is the currency of the kingdom
This point really resonated with me and I’m not sure if this was the author’s intention but this laid the foundation for me in reading this book. It put into perspective the reality of kingdom living, which according to Myles Munroe was what Jesus came to teach us about. He came as an ambassador of heaven not just a sacrifice. But one who offered citizenship to a greater kingdom. In his message, ‘repent for the kingdom of God is at hand’, I see this as Jesus saying that citizenship in this kingdom is dependent on repentance. Munroe now says that once we are a part of that kingdom we must become acquainted with the common currency (faith) without which nothing can be done.
2. The major flaw of the faith movement
Munroe referred to the faith movement as flawed in that it makes faith a extraordinary focal point when it wasn’t meant to be that way. Faith is common currency in the kingdom of God and so it shouldn’t be placed on a pedestal. Christ is the focal point of the Christian life.
3. The fight between faith and fear is the only fight we really have in life
According to Munroe the enemy is really after our faith. Every attack that we face, on our finances, health, relationships etc are only a means to an end. And that end is to rob you of your faith currency. Munroe points out that we can have all the money in the world and still be poor, but to be rich in faith is to have everything you need. The enemy knows that and it’s why his weapon of preference is fear.
4. We can never know the truth of a situation until we see it from God’s perspective
This point in the book brought me back to the story of Job. When Job lost everything, everyone came around ready to make assessments. Maybe he sinned, maybe he needs to do more, maybe… but it was only until God stepped in, did Job’s situation make sense and his accusers were the once needing to repent. When we look at situations through a faith perspective, believing that God will do what He will do and all things will work together for our good, I guess that’s the point where things start making sense, even if it might seem like nonsense to the faithless.
These are the points which stood out to me so far while reading Re-discovering faith by Myles Munroe. So far I think it’s definitely a good read to start the year. Particularly if as part of your relationship resolution, you’ve committed to a time of prayer and fast as most Christians tend to do at the start of the year.
I want to encourage you to also make reading a part of your life, although I’m probably preaching to the choir here. If you want to keep following my first book of the year reading, you can follow me on twitter.
Be a blessing
